Another Vehicle Reported Stolen from Jonesboro Dealership During Maintenance

JONESBORO, Ark. — Another vehicle left for maintenance at a Jonesboro car dealership has been reported stolen.

The theft was reported on August 7 at Cavenaugh KIA, 3407 S. Stadium Boulevard. The owner of a white 2015 Kia Optima had dropped her car off for maintenance on August 1, a police report said. She was informed of the theft on the morning of August 7 when she was due to pick the vehicle up.

Dealership management informed the car owner that her vehicle had been stored within a locked area with the keys inside. The report further mentioned that the lock showed signs of damage on August 4 but remained secure. Following this, the dealership opted to replace the lock. The report also said they contacted the wrecker service they use but no one had picked the vehicle up that they could find.

The victim later contacted police and said the incident seemed fishy and recommended the dealership be investigated. She said things were not adding up when speaking to the manager about the incident. It wasn’t clear exactly what prompted this suspicion.

The vehicle has been entered into the NCIC database as stolen. The case itself has been placed on inactive status pending additional information due to a lack of leads, the most recent update to the report says. Submit tips here.

It is at least the third major theft reported at a Jonesboro car dealership in two weeks. Last week, a vehicle was reported stolen while being maintenanced at a dealership. Earlier in the same week, a vehicle was stripped of it’s wheels, tires, and even brake lights while being serviced. All three incidents have been at different car dealerships.

Other vehicle thefts have been reported recently in Jonesboro as well.
