JONESBORO, Ark. – A larger campaign targeting distracted driving continued Monday in Jonesboro with increased enforcement.
Distracted driving is driving while doing another activity that takes your attention away from driving. Most notably, that includes texting while driving.
Officers will be staged around town again today as part of a statewide mobilization effort to reduce the total number of accidents in our community due to distracted driving. – JPD in a press release
A release from Arkansas State Police indicated they’re also enforcing the same laws under the same campaign. Their focus is on I-40, the release said, but the enforcement is happening all around Arkansas
The entire state of Arkansas is currently focused on reducing accidents caused by the distractions from cell phone usage and other distracted driving violations, JPD’s release said.
JPD officers are deployed as of this publication and will continue this special assignment throughout the afternoon and in the coming weeks.
Each day in the United States, approximately 9 people are killed and more than 1,000 injured in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data.
