High-Speed Pursuit Leads to Felony Charges in Paragould

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man faces felony charges after police said he fled from a traffic stop at speeds up to 100 mph in a residential area.

Antreze Knowles was arrested on charges including felony fleeing, aggravated assault and reckless driving. He also faces traffic-related charges, including no lights, no license and running stop signs.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Paragould officers attempted to stop a gold four-door passenger car on July 7 after the driver failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Officers also noted the vehicle had a broken taillight.

When officers activated their emergency lights and siren to conduct the stop, police said the vehicle continued fleeing at a high rate of speed. Officers reported the vehicle reached up to 100 mph in a posted 30 mph residential neighborhood.

During the pursuit, officers said the vehicle accelerated and drove extremely close to two children who were walking on the side of the roadway.

At another point, police said the vehicle purposely drove into the wrong lane toward another officer’s vehicle in an apparent head-on path. The vehicle then abruptly steered back into the other lane, avoiding a collision, according to the affidavit.

The vehicle was eventually stopped, and Knowles was taken into custody. Police later learned his driver’s license was suspended, according to the affidavit.

During an interview with police, Knowles admitted to fleeing from officers and said he was scared, according to the affidavit. Police said he also acknowledged that his license was suspended.

Bond was set at $150,000 cash or surety. Knowles was also ordered to wear an ankle monitor, have no weapons and report weekly to the sheriff’s office.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
