Arrest Made After Woman Hit With 2×4, Threatened With Gun, Police Say

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Craighead County man is facing three felony charges after police say a woman was struck in the face with a 2×4 and threatened with a handgun.

Fabian Cortes Davis, 32, was arrested after officers responded at about 4:21 p.m. July 4 to the 300 block of North Drake Street for a report of a subject with a weapon, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Dispatchers told officers Davis had struck the victim in the face with a stick or board and displayed a handgun while threatening her, the affidavit states.

When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from what was described as a severe facial injury. According to the affidavit, her upper lip was almost completely through, she was actively bleeding, and she required emergency medical treatment. Police said she had difficulty speaking because of the injury.

The victim told officers that after a verbal argument, Davis crushed her cigarettes, struck her in the face with a 2×4, displayed a handgun tucked in his waistband and told her, “I oughta shoot your ass right now,” according to the affidavit.

Officers later located Davis a short distance from the scene and detained him. Police said a handgun was recovered from his person.

After Davis arrived at the Craighead County Detention Center, police said he attempted to flee while in the sally port, resisted officers and detention staff, struck his head on concrete and attempted to bite a jailer. The affidavit also states Davis later spit in the face of an assisting officer while at St. Bernards Medical Center after being transported there for medical clearance.

Davis was arrested for first-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree battery and second-degree battery against a police, fire or correctional employee, all Class D felonies.

His next court date was set for Aug. 21. Bond was set at $35,000 cash or surety, and a mental evaluation was ordered.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
