HARRISBURG, Ark. — A Poinsett County lottery player claimed a $50,000 Powerball prize this week after purchasing a winning ticket in Harrisburg, according to the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.
Stephen C. of Poinsett County won the prize in the July 4 Powerball drawing. He claimed the prize July 7 at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center.
The ticket was purchased at Jordan’s Kwik Stop 9, 900 E. Jackson St. in Harrisburg.
The winning numbers for the July 4 drawing were 17, 38, 46, 50 and 69. The Powerball number was 20, and the Power Play multiplier was 2.
Stephen matched four of the five winning numbers and the Powerball number to win $50,000, according to the lottery. Lottery officials noted that winning numbers are selected randomly and that no number is more likely to win than another.
“I didn’t expect it,” Stephen told lottery officials.
According to the release, Stephen regularly plays Powerball and buys tickets three times a week. He discovered the win after work when he stopped at the retailer for gas and checked his ticket.
After a clerk told him a winning ticket had been sold in Harrisburg, Stephen checked the numbers at home and confirmed he had won. He first shared the news with his wife, who reacted with excitement, according to the lottery.
Stephen told lottery officials he plans to use the winnings to remodel his home.
The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery also announced another $50,000 Powerball prize claimed by George G. of Pulaski County from the June 17 drawing. That ticket was sold at Speedway Store 3905, 2900 N. Washington St. in Forrest City.
George claimed his prize June 29 after finding a nearly two-week-old ticket while cleaning out a truck, according to the lottery.
