JONESBORO, Ark. — A Blytheville man accused in a deadly Jonesboro shooting appeared in court Wednesday, where a judge set his bond at $750,000 cash or surety.
Jeremiah Edrick Northern, 23, of Blytheville — the rapper known as Bic Fizzle — was arrested by the Jonesboro Police Department on suspicion of first-degree murder and booked at noon Tuesday, July 7, at the Craighead County Detention Center.
The case stems from a shooting reported at about 7:41 p.m. July 6 at 3505 Fairview Drive in Jonesboro. According to a probable cause affidavit, officers arrived and found Northern at the residence. A man was found dead on the living room floor.
Police reported finding multiple shell casings inside and outside the residence. Two handguns were found in the living room area, and officers also noted a large amount of glass in the street near the driveway. A large amount of marijuana was found in the kitchen, according to the affidavit.
A woman at the residence told police she had taken three children into a back room around 7 p.m. when she heard the front door open, followed by a male voice saying “put it down” twice, according to the affidavit. She then heard multiple gunshots. After the shots stopped, she got the children out of the residence while observing a male subject lying in the living room, police said.
The woman told police she believed the subject had come to the residence to rob another resident of marijuana, according to the affidavit.
That resident told police an acquaintance he knew as “Bic” came to the residence in a silver BMW with another man to purchase marijuana. The resident told investigators he gave “Bic” a pound of marijuana in the kitchen before the other man pointed a gun at him and said, “I’m going to need all of it,” according to the affidavit.
Police said the resident reported that “Bic” walked out the front door with the marijuana and closed the door behind him. The other man then backed toward the front door while still pointing the gun, according to the affidavit.
The resident told police he grabbed a firearm kept above a microwave and began shooting at the man, who collapsed to the floor. He then went outside, saw “Bic” in the passenger seat of the silver BMW and fired at the vehicle before it fled, according to the affidavit.
The silver BMW was later found abandoned with several bullet holes in the passenger-side front door and windshield. Police said the vehicle returned to Northern.
Bond Hearing
In court on Wednesday, Northern appeared emotional while District Judge David Boling read the affidavit. He faces two class Y felony charges -first-degree murder and aggravated robbery. Northern kept his head down, was in tears, and at one point asked how quickly he could speak with an attorney. He had his hands on his face and ran them through his hair as the judge answered.
A deputy prosecutor was present during Wednesday’s bond hearings. After hearing recommendations, Boling set Northern’s bond at $750,000 cash or surety and ordered a GPS ankle monitor if he is released. Northern’s next court date was set for Aug. 21.
As Northern was leaving the jail’s Zoom hearing room, he yelled something, then shouted a second expletive as the next defendant walked into view, causing her to look back. However, the judge was conversing with family members in the court and did not react.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
