Reward offered in murder case

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Estate of Clifford Toney has made a $5,000 contribution to Crime Stoppers of Jonesboro as a reward to be paid for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Brian Kyle Gipson, 29, who was found shot to death on Curtview St. in Jonesboro on May 23, 2015.

Cellular bandits sought for swiping several cell phones

JONESBORO, Ark. – Two suspects are being sought for using the five-finger discount on as many cell phones at a Jonesboro store.

Now, they may end up with a different kind of cell.

Jonesboro Police Department took the report Thursday at Walmart on Highland Drive, where a loss prevention employee advised five cell phones were discovered missing from near the cash register area.  Continue reading “Cellular bandits sought for swiping several cell phones”

Officer injured arresting parolee with meth

JONESBORO, Ark. – A Jonesboro officer of the law ended up in the emergency room after a suspect refused to surrender, the police report detailed.

At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, JPD Officer Christopher Jefferson responded to JETS bus station at 2630 Lacy Drive to speak with a woman about her husband, Johnny Leon Turner, 50, of Jonesboro. Turner is on parole and was suspected of possession of methamphetamines due to him failing a drug test.

The officer noticed Turner pull into the parking lot in a gold Dodge Durango and knew he had a suspended license. The officer approached and noticed Turner looked at him and said, “You ain’t got no reason to be messing with me, you ain’t got nothing on me.”

Sex offender arrested for failure to register

JONESBORO, Ark. – A level 2 sex offender was arrested for failing to register a change in address to police, according to the police report.

Jonesboro Police Department was contacted by a witness saying Christopher Ritchey, 32, of Jonesboro, a non-reportable level 2 sex offender, had been staying in the backyard at a home at the 5300-block of Trammel. Ritchey was reported to be living at the 4700-block of Samantha, but the witness stated he had been at the new address for “several months.”  Continue reading “Sex offender arrested for failure to register”

Special Finance Committee meeting called for Jan. 3

JONESBORO, Ark. – Media has been notified of a special meeting in Jonesboro.

The Finance Committee has called a special meeting to be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 4:45 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Municipal Center, 300 S. Church Street. The meeting is being held to consider the following items:

  • Minutes for meetings on December 13 and December 20
  • An ordinance to waive bidding and authorize a contract with USAble to provide insurance coverage for city employees for 2017
  • Discussion concerning elected officials salaries
