JONESBORO, Ark. — A suspect is facing a felony sexual assault charge, in addition to a hold from immigration authorities, in Jonesboro.
Jose Manuel Alveraz-Interiano, 46, appeared in court on Wednesday and was represented by attorney Mark Rees. He is being charged with second-degree sexual assault, a Class B felony. The prosecutor noted he was a citizen of Mexico and asked for a $1 million bond. Rees asked for a $100,000 bond.
Judge David Boling decided to set bail at $500,000 cash or surety, with a no-contact order for the alleged victim and a GPS ankle monitor, if he is released. However, it was noted that ICE has placed a hold on the suspect.
The probable cause affidavit alleges that a juvenile victim and the victim’s guardian reported to the victim’s school that Alvarez-Interiano had been touching and rubbing the child in the private areas. The victim was forensically interviewed and said that while at a family member’s house, where the suspect lives, he touched the victim over and under the clothing, including in the genital area.
The encounters dated back to 2024.
Detectives made contact with a witness at the residence, confirming he lived there. Detectives observed the location in the residence where the victim described the assault, stating that it was consistent with the victim’s statements.
On May 13, Alvarez-Interiano was interviewed by detectives under Miranda. Police say he provided details bout his encounters with the victim that were consistent with the victim’s statements, and made other incriminating statements, although he denied touching the victim in a sexual manner.
His next court appearance is scheduled for June 27.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
