Festivities Kick Off Holiday Season in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, Ark. – As the holiday season is upon us, Jonesboro offers many activities to inject a festive spirit into even the biggest scrooge.

Christmas at the Park opens at 5:30 p.m. today, Nov. 22, with free entry offered to the first 22 cars, along with s’mores kits, sponsor magnets, and holiday specs for the kids. Santa and special guests Howl and Scarlet from Arkansas State University will welcome attendees this evening.

Christmas at the Park runs through Dec. 31, with special events and opportunities throughout the season, including a “Pay What You Can Night” on Nov. 29 thanks to area-wide sponsors.  For a detailed calendar of events, admission costs, & other FAQs, go online to christmasattheparknea.com or the Christmas at the Park Facebook page.

The Jonesboro FOA Christmas Parade starts at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1. Registration deadline to participate in the parade is Friday, Nov. 24. The beloved community tradition will take place downtown on Main St., between Cate & Oak, with a “Merry Melodies” theme. Downtown Jonesboro Alliance’s JoyFest begins at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, on Union Street. The event will include the annual lighting of the Rightfiber 64-foot Christmas tree, live music on the Hytrol Stage, featuring Cory Jackson and other local musicians, a kids’ zone sponsored by First Security Bank, local vendors in Barton’s Village, and more, at no cost to attendees.

Winter Wonderland and The First Community Bank Wonderland Rink by the City of Jonesboro’s Parks and Recreation Department will open Dec. 2, running Wednesdays through Sundays through Dec. 23 at 215 W. Monroe Ave.

Winter Wonderland admission is free. Activities such as the Ferris wheel, ice skating, and train rides cost $2-$5 per person.
