Police: Man Hid Stolen Baseball Gloves Beneath Himself in Wheelchair

JONESBORO, Ark. — A man faces a felony theft charge after police say surveillance footage showed him concealing four stolen baseball gloves beneath himself while using a wheelchair.

Philip Arrant, 53, was arrested for theft of property valued between $1,000 and $5,000, a Class D felony.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the Jonesboro Police Department was contacted March 12 regarding a theft that occurred March 7 at Play It Again Sports.

A store representative told police that an officer in Richland, Mississippi, had stopped Arrant and found four baseball gloves believed to belong to the Jonesboro sporting goods store. The representative confirmed that the gloves had been stolen, according to the affidavit.

Police said surveillance footage showed Arrant entering the store in a wheelchair and taking four gloves into a bathroom. When he left the bathroom, the gloves were allegedly concealed beneath him as he sat on top of them.

Arrant then left the store with the gloves, the affidavit states.

Arrant was arrested out of state on June 14, jail records show. On June 15, bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety. Arrant must wear a GPS ankle monitor as a condition of his release. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 30.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
