Bono Man Accused of Stealing $800, Using Victim’s Debit Card

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Bono man faces felony and misdemeanor charges after police say he stole cash and debit cards from a woman before using one of the cards for purchases.

James Brian Ferguson, 42, was arrested for theft of property, a Class D felony; fraudulent use of a credit card, a misdemeanor; and theft of property valued at $1,000 or less, a misdemeanor.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Jonesboro police took a report May 10 from a woman who said Ferguson had visited her home before stealing $800 from her purse and taking several debit cards.

The woman later sent Ferguson a message asking for the cash back, but Ferguson allegedly did not respond.

On May 11, the woman continued receiving notifications that her Cash App card was being used. Police said two attempted transactions for Uber were made shortly after 1:45 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., but both were declined because of insufficient funds.

Investigators obtained information from Uber and identified Ferguson as the person who allegedly used the card. Multiple attempts were made to interview him, but he did not appear for scheduled interviews, according to the affidavit.

Arkansas State Police arrested Ferguson in Paragould on June 14. He was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.

Bond was set at $35,000 cash or surety, with a GPS ankle monitor required as a condition of release. Court records also show a parole hold.

Ferguson’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 30.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
