Male Accused of Tackling, Choking Woman During Jonesboro Domestic Disturbance

JONESBORO, Ark. — A judge set a $150,000 bond for a man accused of tackling and choking a woman during a domestic disturbance in Jonesboro.

Richard Alton Bogan, 35, was arrested for aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony.

Jonesboro police responded June 14 to a residence on Sandino Drive after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance in progress. Officers arrived to find two people arguing and separated them while they investigated, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The alleged victim told police that Bogan had been drinking and began gathering his belongings to leave. During an argument, Bogan allegedly rushed toward her and tackled her to the ground.

Police said Bogan then got on top of the woman and choked her with both hands. The woman told officers she grabbed Bogan’s hair in an attempt to defend herself but was unable to breathe or speak until another person pulled him off her.

An officer reported seeing red scratch marks on the woman’s left cheek, along with scratches and swelling on her neck that were consistent with her account.

Bogan was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.

Bond was set at $150,000 cash or surety. During the bond hearing, the judge noted that this was Bogan’s 13th arrest and that he had multiple prior arrests involving allegations of violence.

His next court appearance is scheduled for July 30.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
