Shoplifting Arrest Becomes Felony After Prior Theft Conviction

JONESBORO, Ark. — A woman was arrested on a felony theft charge after police said a shoplifting investigation on Highland Drive revealed a prior theft-related conviction.

Amanda Lashayl Wright, 40, was arrested on suspicion of theft of property of $1,000 or less, a second offense, making the charge a Class D felony.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Jonesboro police were dispatched May 26 to a shoplifting incident on Highland Drive. When officers arrived, loss prevention personnel had already detained Wright and escorted her to the store’s security office.

Loss prevention officers reviewed merchandise in Wright’s shopping cart and compared the items to her receipt, recovering approximately $108.90 worth of unpaid merchandise, the affidavit said.

Police said Wright was identified during the investigation. While reviewing her criminal history, officers found a prior theft-related conviction. Wright was then placed under arrest and transported to the Craighead County Detention Center.

Judge David Boling set Wright’s bond at $1,500 cash or surety. Her next court date is June 26.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
