Gun Reported Pointed at Woman During Jonesboro Domestic Disturbance

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro woman was arrested after police said a domestic disturbance involved allegations that a gun was pointed at another woman’s head.

Laquitta Holmes, 38, of Jonesboro, was arrested for aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Jonesboro police responded June 20 to a disturbance in progress at an address on Heather Ridge Drive. While officers were on their way, they contacted a woman by phone who said that during an argument, her ex, with whom she still lived, pulled a gun on her.

The woman told police she was in a bedroom with her girlfriend when Holmes entered and began demanding that she leave the house. The woman said she was eventually able to leave the room and lock herself in the master bedroom.

According to the affidavit, Holmes then forced her way into the locked room and continued the argument. The woman reported that Holmes grabbed a handgun from the bed, threatened to shoot her, and put the gun to her temple and again told her she was going to shoot her.

The affidavit said the dispute turned physical after the woman knocked the gun away from her head. She told police Holmes punched her before being knocked to the ground, then got on top of her and held her down.

Police said a family member entered the room and had to force Holmes off the woman. The family member also told police Holmes took the gun from that person and left the scene on foot, according to the affidavit.

Officers said statements from the woman and the family member were consistent with the reported use of a firearm, but no firearm was located during the investigation.

Bond was set at $20,000 cash or surety by Judge David Boling. Holmes’ next court date is July 30.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
