Suspect Arrested After Fentanyl, Meth Found During Stop in Jonesboro, Affidavit Says

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro police contact turned into a drug arrest after officers said they found fentanyl, methamphetamine and paraphernalia in a suspect’s backpack, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Craighead County.

Isaiah Allen McCullough, 20, was arrested after officers encountered him and another person at about 9:39 p.m. May 9 while patrolling in the area of Warren, the affidavit says.

Officers reported seeing two people walking near the roadway. As officers got closer, both turned away from the vehicle and walked into a nearby wooded line, according to the affidavit. Officers said the behavior was suspicious because the area was known for residential and vehicle break-ins.

One person was identified as Tanner Bobbitt, who officers said had an active felony warrant. The second person was identified as McCullough.

According to the affidavit, Bobbitt was carrying a hatchet while McCullough was carrying a knife. Officers told both to drop the weapons, and Bobbitt immediately complied. McCullough allegedly turned away from officers, who were able to retrieve the knife from him.

The affidavit says McCullough then began to walk away from officers and act erratically. Officers told him he was being detained, but he did not comply, according to the affidavit.

A nicotine vape was removed from McCullough, who reportedly told officers he was about to turn 21. Officers then told McCullough to remove his backpack. At that point, he allegedly began moving away from the vehicle as if he was going to run and would not comply with commands, the affidavit says.

Officers reported having to take him to the ground as he resisted and attempted to get away.

During a search of the backpack, officers said they found a pink zipper baggie containing a small corner baggie with an orange substance weighing 2.05 grams. The affidavit says the substance was packaged in a way officers said was consistent with how they have seen narcotics packaged.

Officers also reported finding a corner baggie with a white substance suspected to be methamphetamine weighing 0.5 grams, a glass pipe with burn marks, several tobacco products and a THC vape.

The orange substance later tested positive for fentanyl and methamphetamine using a TruNarc narcotics analyzer, according to the affidavit. The white substance tested positive for methamphetamine.

McCullough faces charges including possession of fentanyl, a Class C felony; possession of methamphetamine or cocaine greater than 2 grams but less than 10 grams, a Class C felony; possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor; resisting arrest, a Class B misdemeanor; possession of Schedule VI less than 4 ounces, a Class A misdemeanor; and possession of a cigarette or tobacco product by a minor.

A Class C felony is punishable by three to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

On Monday, Judge Tommy Fowler set bail at $100,000 cash or surety.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

NOTE: No probable cause paperwork was yet available for Bobbitt.
