Gun Found In Glove Box Leads To Felony Arrest

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro traffic stop led to a felony arrest after police reported finding a firearm in a vehicle’s glove box.

Jonesboro officers conducted a traffic stop on May 10 near Greensboro Road and Scott Street for a parking violation, according to information from police. Officers reported seeing Walter Daniels standing outside the vehicle and a passenger inside.

Police said officers saw an open alcohol container in the vehicle and learned Daniels was on probation. Officers also reported that Daniels had been driving the vehicle moments before the stop.

During a search of the vehicle, officers reported finding a firearm in the glove box. Police said Daniels has a past felony conviction.

Daniels was taken into custody and transported to the Craighead County Detention Center. He is accused of possession of a firearm by certain persons, a Class B felony.

District Judge Tommy Fowler set bond at $75,000. Fowler noted Daniels was sentenced in November to 36 months suspended imposition of sentence, is on probation and has a long history of violence.

Daniels’ next court date is set for June 30.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
