President Trump Approves Disaster Aid for Arkansas Following Spring Storms

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — President Donald Trump plans to issue a major disaster declaration for Arkansas in response to the severe storms and tornadoes that struck the state March 14-15, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced Tuesday.

The declaration follows a formal request from Sanders and will make federal assistance available to individuals affected by the storms. The aid is expected to include housing support, crisis counseling and other recovery programs through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Sanders said she spoke with Trump before the announcement and expressed her support for proposed changes to FEMA aimed at reducing costs and increasing direct assistance to disaster victims. She also thanked federal officials involved in the response.

“Our entire state is grateful for President Trump’s leadership and assistance as we recover from the devastating storms,” Sanders said in a statement.
