JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro man was arrested on multiple felony charges after allegedly shooting his wife and firing at two other women during a domestic dispute on Feb. 28, according to a probable cause affidavit.
On Feb. 28, JPD responded to the 300 block of North Drake regarding a shooting, the affidavit said. When they arrived, there was a confrontation with a male, later identified as Leroy Starks, who was taken into custody after a brief struggle.
Officers located a female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The affidavit said Starks had been drinking and arguing with his wife, the alleged victim, about ongoing issues in their marriage. Two other females were in the residence that tried to mediate between the two and calm the situation.
Starks retreated to the bedroom, described as detached from the living room where the shooting occurred, and came back into the living room with a silver handgun. The affidavit alleges he began shooting at the female witnesses before turning and shooting his wife.
The wife was shot multiple times, causing three injuries: one to the chin, one to the neck, and one to the left hand through two fingers, sustained as she was trying to shield herself.
Starks was arrested for Criminal Attempt to Commit First-Degree Murder, a Class A felony, First-Degree Domestic Battery, a Class B felony, Possession of Firearm by Certain Persons, a Class B felony, two counts of Aggravated Assault, a Class D felony, and Resisting Arrest/Refusal to Submit, a Class A misdemeanor.
On Monday, bail was set at $1 million cash or surety with a no contact order and GPS ankle monitor required. The defendant was noted to have a violent history on his PC affidavit. His next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on April 24 in Jonesboro.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
