HARRISBURG, Ark. — Families in the Harrisburg School District will not have to purchase school supplies for their children ahead of the upcoming school year.
The district will provide all necessary school supplies for every student, Superintendent Julie Isbell announced in a letter to families.
Parents and guardians are only being asked to provide a backpack. Students may choose a backpack that reflects their individual personalities and styles, Isbell said.
The district hopes the initiative will reduce the financial burden families often experience during the back-to-school season.
“I know back-to-school season can get expensive, and buying school supplies is just one more thing families have to budget for,” Isbell wrote. “We hope this helps take a little stress off your plate so you can spend more time getting your children ready for a great school year instead of worrying about a supply list.”
Isbell said the district wants to ensure every student arrives for the first day of school with the materials needed to succeed.
“Every child deserves to walk into school on the first day with the supplies they need to be successful,” Isbell wrote. “We’re proud to be able to make that happen for our students this year.”
Additional back-to-school information is expected to be provided by the district as the beginning of the new academic year approaches.
