PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man was arrested after police said he choked his girlfriend and smashed her cellphone as she attempted to call 911 during a domestic disturbance.
Dalton Wesley Dees, 35, faces allegations of aggravated assault on a family or household member and possession of methamphetamine, both Class D felonies. He also faces first-degree interference with emergency communications, a misdemeanor.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers responded to a home in the 600 block of South Sixth Street after a woman reported that her boyfriend had thrown her to the ground, smashed her phone to prevent her from calling 911 and choked her until she could not breathe.
The woman escaped to a neighbor’s home and called police as Dees allegedly left the area on foot. Officers reported seeing redness on her neck and a scrape on her knee. Her cellphone was damaged, with the screen separated from its case.
Police found Dees walking near South Fifth Avenue and East Locust Street. The affidavit said he had visible injuries near his right eyebrow and on the right side of his abdomen.
Officers arrested Dees and allegedly found a small amount of methamphetamine in his pants pocket.
Judge Curtis Hitt set bail at $100,000 cash or surety. Dees must wear an ankle monitor if released and is prohibited from contacting the woman or possessing weapons.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
