Juvenile Arrested After Theft of Firearms

JONESBORO, Ark. — A 15-year old was arrested for allegedly stealing a bag of firearms this week in Jonesboro.

Around 8:22 PM on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the Jonesboro Police Department responded to a robbery that had just occurred at the 1800-block of Greensboro Road. The caller said a suspect had just stolen an olive colored backpack containing a broken down AR-15 style rifle.

The victim knew the name of the suspect. Dispatch was able to find an address. Officer Jacob Elliott Lowry was on patrol in the area when he noticed a young male matching the description and carrying a green backpack. As the suspect walked across Fisher Street just south of Hoover, the officer got out and ordered the suspect to stop and come speak to him. Instead, the juvenile took off on foot.

After crossing Drake Street, the officer deployed his taser but wasn’t able to make contact due to the backpack. Not long after that, the officer caught up to him and placed him into custody without further incident.

The suspect told police he found the backpack and it was not his.

Other officers reported finding the green backpack carried by the suspect. It contained the AR-15 parts but also, a teal colored Ruger EC9s. The report said the handgun had yet to be reported stolen and it was unknown who the owner was.

Police went to his address and made contact with his mother, who was advised of the situation. From there, the juvenile suspect was transported to the Craighead County Detention Center on charges including theft of a firearm, fleeing on foot, and handgun possession by a minor.

The case was referred to the juvenile department.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
