Jonesboro Man Accidentally Shoots Himself

JONESBORO, Ark. – An accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound sent a young man to the hospital this week in Jonesboro.

It happened around 9:45 AM on July 2, 2024 on Richsmith Lane. Initially, police were responding believing the incident to be a suicide attempt. The girlfriend of the victim had made the 911 call, but was out of the county, which caused some of the confusion. Authorities cleared the scene and detectives arrived to process evidence.

The report said a male, 18, was in the bedroom clearing his firearm. He took the clip out and went to rack the slide when the gun went off. The bullet entered his upper inside thigh and traveled down his inner thigh, exiting before the back of the knee and then entered his inside left calf and exited outside the left calf.

The handgun was checked by authorities and found to be not stolen. It was logged into evidence.

Authorities determined the case to be accidental and closed the case.
