Sleepy Driver Lands Two in Jail on Drug Charges

JONESBORO, Ark. – Two people were arrested last week in Jonesboro for drugs after a tip about a person sleeping behind the wheel.

Police were dispatched between 2:33 PM and 3:33 PM on March 15 to Aldi’s parking lot on Caraway Road after a call came in about a female sleeping in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, according to the incident report from the Jonesboro Police Department.

As officers were headed that way, they were updated that the driver had left and picked up a male subject in another parking lot. The license plate on the vehicle was expired, so authorities had cause to conduct a traffic stop. After checking the registered owner, they learned of several recent drug arrests. Officers radioed for a K9 unit to come to the stop.

Police found a meth bong, 13.93 grams of meth in one bag, a little over 2 grams of meth in a second bag, two plastic baggies of marijuana, a syringe with blood/meth inside, and several pills stamped with HYL LC.

Rebecca Parker, 32, of Jonesboro, was arrested for possession of meth, greater than 10 grams but less than 200 grams, and for possession of the other drugs as well as paraphernalia.

Her passenger, Jamal L. Speed, 33, of Jonesboro, was arrested on possession of drugs  and paraphernalia charges. Authorities logged into evidence a syringe with suspected meth residue belonging to him.
