Man Accused of Depositing Fraudulent $5,000 Check at Paragould Bank

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A 64-year-old man was arrested after police said he deposited a fraudulent $5,000 check at a Paragould bank and withdrew thousands of dollars before the check was returned.

Paragould officers responded Feb. 9 to Southern Bank on West Kingshighway regarding a forgery report.

Bank management told officers Jeffrey Wood deposited the check on Nov. 19, 2025. According to a probable cause affidavit, Wood spent $357.65 at Hibbett Sports and withdrew $500 that same day.

Police said Wood withdrew an additional $3,600 on Nov. 20. The bank was notified Nov. 24 that the check was fraudulent, leaving the account with a negative balance of $3,928.48.

Wood was arrested June 15 on allegations of Class C felony forgery and Class D felony theft of property. His bond on the felony allegations was set at $30,000 cash or surety.

Jail records also list a separate failure-to-appear allegation involving a Class C misdemeanor, bringing his total listed bond to $30,500.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
