Man Arrested Following Report of Brutal Domestic Battering in Paragould

PARAGOULD, Ark. – A man is facing serious charges after his girlfriend showed up to the hospital with severe injuries following allegations of a brutal domestic violence incident.

The Paragould Police Department was dispatched to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, 900 W. Kingshighway, on March 3, regarding a female victim inside the ER, according to the probable cause affidavit. The victim had severe injuries to her face, head, and neck area. She told authorities she got into a physical altercation with her boyfriend, Gregory Griffin.

The victim went on to tell police Griffin had punched her several times in the face and at one point, grabbed her by the back of the head and slammed her head into the car windshield. The victim said Griffin continued to punch and kick them in the head and at one point, began to choke them. The victim stated that Griffin began putting his hands over her nose and mouth, preventing her from breathing.

During the altercation, the affidavit says that Griffin took the victims phone and prevented her from calling 911.

Griffin was arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a family or household member, a class D felony, domestic battering in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor, and interference with emergency communication in the second degree, a class B misdemeanor.


In a separate incident on March 6, officers received a call referencing to males entering an abandoned residence at the 700-block of East Lake Street. Police made entry to clear the residence and located Jamie Allen Powell laying on a mattress on the floor. The PC affidavit says officers noticed, in plain view, a glass pipe and a baggie of methamphetamine.

After officers arrested Powell, they located a cigarette pack on the floor of the same bedroom containing five separate baggies of meth weighing two grams.

Powell is facing charges of possession of meth with purpose to deliver, a class B felony, and criminal trespass, a class D felony.
