Suspect Accused of Striking Wife With Wrench, Choking Her Unconscious

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro man faces three felony allegations after police said he struck his wife in the head with a wrench, seriously injured her, and choked her until she lost consciousness.

Marcus Ryan Sims was arrested for aggravated assault on a family or household member, second-degree battery, and first-degree terroristic threatening. All three allegations are Class D felonies.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers responded to a residence for a disturbance July 11. The woman told police that Sims, her husband, had hit her in the head with a wrench and choked her unconscious.

Officers reported finding multiple visible injuries that they said appeared to be from previous incidents involving Sims. The woman allegedly told police that she had been afraid to report the abuse because Sims threatened to kill her and members of her family.

The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment.

A detective requested a high bond and GPS monitoring to help enforce a no-contact order. Judge David Boling set Sims’ bail at $150,000 and ordered him to wear an ankle monitor if released. Boling noted that Sims had four prior arrests, three of which involved violence.

Sims’ next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 21.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
