JONESBORO, Ark. – A seemingly routine shoplifting incident quickly escalated into possible felony territory when two suspects fought with a civilian trying to stop them and allegedly threatened violence, according to the Jonesboro Police Department.
The incident took place between 5:30 and 5:51 p.m. on August 21 at Harps, located at 2005 Harrisburg Road in Jonesboro. Two suspects, described as both black, one male, 33, and one female, 39, entered the store and shoplifted approximately $80 worth of laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, and other household items.
When confronted by store employees, the couple fled. A citizen chased the two and a fight ensued, resulting in a 38-year-old male victim suffering redness, swelling, and contusions to the mouth and chin area after being struck by one of the suspects. At some point during the altercation, the suspects are alleged to have threatened to stab and shoot the victim.
The suspects evaded arrest at the scene and made off with the stolen goods. Specific details included in the report indicate authorities may have an identity on the perpetrators.
Facing felony charges for terroristic threatening and aggravated assault, as well as misdemeanors for battery and shoplifting, the suspects are now sought by the Jonesboro Police Department.
