JONESBORO, AR – More than 100 health care professionals and educators are scheduled to attend Friday’s Delta HIV Symposium, which will be hosted by New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University. The event offers attendees an opportunity to learn more about the prevention, treatment and management of patients with an HIV/AIDS diagnosis.
The Delta HIV Symposium will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Arkansas State University’s Centennial Hall. NYITCOM’s Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) is co-hosting the event.
“There have been significant advancements in HIV/AIDS treatment over the years, but there are still an array of stigmas that exist concerning HIV/AIDS patients and many health care providers simply aren’t aware of the latest information regarding the disease,” said Carl Abraham, M.D., assistant professor of clinical medicine at NYITCOM who specializes in infectious disease. “This conference will provide invaluable information and foster discussion about a topic that simply needs to be highlighted more prevalently.”
Featured speakers include Jesse M. Ehrenfeld, M.D., M.P.H., senior associate dean at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) School of Medicine and a founding director of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Program for LGBTQ Health; Dr. Mark Alain Dery, D.O., Chief Innovation Officer and infectious Disease Physician for Access Health Louisiana, Medical Director at the Center for Health Equities, Medical Director at AETC and Ryan White Services, and Executive Director for The New Orleans Society for Infectious Disease Awareness; and J. Dan Moore, M.D., a Searcy-based family physician with HIV clinics in Jonesboro, Batesville, Searcy, Conway, and Little Rock who has served as Program/Medical Director of ARcare’s Positive Connections program since 1999 and is the ARcare Chief Medical Information Officer.
