JONESBORO – The exhibit “Dinosaurs: Fossils Exposed” will open Saturday, April 29, at Arkansas State University Museum. This free exhibit, which continues until early October, explores the bones and fossils belonging to giant creatures that once roamed the earth.
Visitors will view and even touch reproductions of full dinosaur skeletons, including a Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus rex, and Velociraptor. There will also be replicas of skulls, legs, eggs, footprints, and a six-foot Apatosaurus femur (thigh bone). Also, kids will be able to “dig up bones” with paleontology tools.
“Northeast Arkansas was covered by a shallow sea during dinosaur times, so their bones were never deposited here,” said Jill Kary, ASU Museum’s curator of education, “yet, we are thrilled to host replicas of the massive, mysterious creatures. This exhibit will enable us as educators to mix facts with fun while stirring our guests’ imaginations.”
“Dinosaurs: Fossils Exposed” is made possible in part by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation and by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
ASU Museum hours are Monday and Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
