A-State Announces 2017 Spring Graduation List

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University has released the list of students who were awarded diplomas on the undergraduate and graduate levels during the 2017 Spring Commencement ceremony May 13 in the Convocation Center.

Dr. Doug Whitlock, who has served as Arkansas State University’s interim chancellor since September 2016, conferred degrees to 2,210 graduates representing six colleges: Agriculture, Engineering and Technology; Business; Education and Behavioral Science; Liberal Arts and Communication; Nursing and Health Professions; and Sciences and Mathematics. Writers Complete HPMEC Summer Retreat

PIGGOTT – Fourteen talented writers recently participated in the summer writers’ retreat at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center (HPMEC). Throughout the week, the writers came together to hone their skills and to form a community in Northeast Arkansas at the site where Ernest Hemingway penned much of his iconic novel A Farewell to Arms.
Writer C.D. Albin served as mentor for the retreat. Albin was born and raised in West Plains, Mo. He earned a Doctor of Arts degree in English from the University of Mississippi and has taught for many years at Missouri State University-West Plains where he founded and edits Elder Mountain: A Journal of Ozarks Studies. June 26: McLain Band to Perform at KASU’s Bluegrass Monday Concert Series

JONESBORO – The Michael and Jennifer McLain Band will perform a concert of bluegrass and acoustic music Monday, June 26, at 7 p.m. at the Collins Theatre, 120 West Emerson Street, in downtown Paragould. The show is part of the Bluegrass Monday concert series presented by KASU 91.9 FM of Arkansas State University.

Husband and wife Michael and Jennifer McLain have been playing music together since their first date over two decades ago. They have entertained audiences in 27 states and Canada, and have appeared at the Grand Ole Opry and on numerous television programs.
