JONESBORO, Ark. – Authorities investigated an incident involving a person being found dead inside of a tent in a homeless encampment recently in Jonesboro, reports show.
At about 11:19 AM on April 19, authorities were dispatched to the area of Allie Street and Cate Avenue in reference to an unresponsive male subject found in a homeless encampment. Officers arrived and verified the male victim was deceased, with rigor mortis having already set in.
Authorities spoke with a man who shared the tent with the deceased. The report indicated the male was distraught, saying the homeless encampment was not safe and that he needed to “get out of here.” The male complainant said the victim had been okay the night before but something was wrong that morning.
The complainant said that the victim used methamphetamine frequently but did not suspect he had used fentanyl.
The coroner searched the body and found a pack of cigarettes with a clear plastic bag of suspected methamphetamine.
Robert Masterson, 54, of Rector, was identified as the deceased.
No signs of foul play were noted in the incident report. Next of kin was notified, the report said.
