JONESBORO, Ark. – One person was arrested and over a dozen others cited and released after a large group trashed Jonesboro High School in a group prank Thursday, April 18, 2024.
A statement released by the Jonesboro Police Department said that an officer noticed a group of people at the JHS parking lot shortly after 11 PM on April 18. He made contact and noticed eggs and debris on the ground. As more units arrived, police began to find answers to the obvious questions.
The school had been trashed, with papers, cups, trash, and toilet paper covering the hallways. Toilet paper was also strung across lights in the school. Photos appear to show extensive vandalism to the premises. Police said it was under the misguided premise of a “senior prank.”
One person was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, obstructing governmental operations, criminal trespass, and criminal mischief. Thirteen adults and four juveniles were cited and released. Several others had already left the scene.

Mayor’s statement on JHS:
As always, I am grateful to the Jonesboro Police Department for their hard work in protecting and serving the community. The officer who noticed a disturbance at the Academies of JHS quickly acted upon intuition and discovered the situation.
Unfortunately, these young people ‘s lack of discretion is evident, as this is not an acceptable senior prank, but are actions of vandalism and destruction of property.
The Jonesboro Police Department will work with the Jonesboro School District to investigate the vandalism that occurred under the misguided view of a senior prank – its destruction of property and anyone involved will face appropriate legal consequences.
This only highlights the importance of community engagement, especially supporting programs that involve engaging the youth within the city and working closely within Jonesboro School Districts.
On April 23, Jonesboro Schools put out a press release detailing the consequences for those involved. That included a five day suspension for any student who was involved and didn’t report the prank to authorities. Seniors will miss a host of senior activities due to this suspension.
On Thursday, April 25, Dr. Kim Wilbanks told K8 News that no charges would be pursued against the seniors provided that no other disorderly conduct occurs through graduation.
