JONESBORO, Ark. – If you have pets, you will want to pay attention to this one.
The City of Jonesboro is offering a low-cost pet vaccination clinic 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Animal Control building, 6119 E. Highland Drive, according to a release from the City of Jonesboro.
Rabies shots for dogs and cats will be $10 each. Also $10 are the 5-in-1 vaccines for adult dogs and puppies and the 3-in-1 vaccines for cats and kittens.
Animal control supervisor, Sgt. Larry Rogers, said it is a unique opportunity for pet owners, especially with multiple furry companions.
“It’s a lot lower than what you’ll normally find,” Rogers said. “People will come in and it saves them a ton of money. They don’t have to worry about an office visit or that kind of stuff. They might have to wait a little bit but $10 and that’s it. And if you have a couple of animals, the more you’re actually saving.”
State laws requires all dogs and cats be vaccinated against rabies, he added. If one does not, they can get a state charge for not having the animal vaccinated.
Dr. Jack Jones, a retired veterinarian, will perform the shots. Northeast Arkansans For Animals (NAFA) will also be helping out the event. For further information, contact Animal Control at 870-935-3920 or email Animal Control Supervisor Larry Rogers at lrogers@jonesboro.org.
“Craighead County has not had an actual case of rabies since the 1980s,” Rogers said. “This is an incredible achievement but it’s why we still stay proactive.”
