Man Accused of Shattering Window, Trying to Force Entry Into Jonesboro Home

JONESBORO, Ark. — A man is accused of shattering a window and repeatedly kicking a door while trying to force his way into a Jonesboro home after being told to leave.

Dylan Liam Mitstifer, 25, was arrested on suspicion of criminal attempt to commit residential burglary, a Class B felony; first-degree criminal mischief; and third-degree assault. The latter two charges are misdemeanors.

Jonesboro police responded June 6 to a residence on Neely Lane after the alleged victim called 911 twice to report an unwanted person damaging the home and attempting to force entry, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The alleged victim told officers he had been watching movies with Mitstifer when an argument began. The victim asked Mitstifer to leave and locked the door after he went outside.

Mitstifer allegedly remained outside yelling, banging on the door and window and threatening to assault the victim. During the disturbance, the front window shattered and injured Mitstifer’s hand, the affidavit states.

Officers reported finding blood on the window, window frame and porch, with a trail leading away from the residence.

The victim called 911 again after Mitstifer allegedly began kicking the front door in an attempt to force his way inside. Police said the kicks caused objects hanging on interior walls to move and fall.

The victim told investigators he feared Mitstifer would assault him if he entered the residence.

Officers later located Mitstifer during a traffic stop near Southwest Drive and Kellers Chapel Road. He was seated in the passenger seat and bleeding from the knuckles of his right hand, according to the affidavit.

Mitstifer initially said the victim cut his hand but later admitted his hand went through the window, police said. He was released while officers continued investigating.

A follow-up investigation June 7 found extensive damage to the front door frame. Police said the wood around the frame was split, the frame was sagging and the deadbolt mechanism had been partially torn away, preventing the door from being properly secured.

Officers also documented a large hole in the window and blood droplets across the porch.

District Judge David Boling set Mitstifer’s bond at $150,000 cash or surety. His next court date is July 30.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
