Man Accused of Stealing Vehicle in Jonesboro to Drive to Sikeston

JONESBORO, Ark. — A suspect who reportedly admitted to stealing a vehicle in Jonesboro to travel to Sikeston was arrested this week.

The probable cause affidavit says that on July 22, JPD was sent to the Links Apartments about a stolen vehicle. All officers were advised to be on the lookout. A man reported that he had parked his vehicle, walked inside to clock in, and returned to find it stolen.

A short time after the BOLO was put out, authorities in another jurisdiction located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at Highway 49 and County Road 928. Officers made contact with the only occupant in the vehicle, Rafael Ranson, 19. He was taken into custody and transported to the police department.

Police interviewed Ranson, where he reportedly admitted to stealing the vehicle in an attempt to go to Sikeston.

Ranson was transported to the Craighead County Detention Center on a charge of theft of a vehicle, greater than $5,000 but less than $25,000, a Class C felony. He is also being held on a mental health evaluation hold.

Bail was set at $5,000 cash or surety by Judge David Boling on Wednesday, July 23.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
