ARKANSAS — Letter carriers across the country will collect nonperishable food donations Saturday, May 9, as part of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
The food drive, now in its 34th year, is described by organizers as the nation’s largest single-day food drive. Over more than 30 years, the effort has collected well over 1.94 billion pounds of food through the Postal Service’s delivery network.
The drive comes as food banks and pantries prepare for summer, when many school breakfast and lunch programs are not available to children in need. Organizers said more than 47 million Americans are unsure where their next meal will come from, including more than 14 million children and nearly 7.4 million seniors over age 60.
Participating is simple. Residents are asked to leave nonperishable food donations in a bag by their mailbox on Saturday, May 9, 2026. A letter carrier will collect the donation and the food will be delivered to local food pantries.
Customers are encouraged to verify food collection in their area with their letter carrier or by entering their delivery ZIP code at nalc.org/community-service/food-drive/branch-lookup. If the search tool does not return results, customers may contact their local post office or email communityserviceshq@nalc.org.
The food drive is conducted nationwide, including Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
