Hoxie Police, Fire Departments Hosting Food Drive to Support Local Food Bank

HOXIE, Ark. — The Hoxie Police and Fire Departments are teaming up to hold a community food drive from July 28 to Aug. 11, aiming to help restock the shelves of a local food bank facing growing demand.

Donations can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Hoxie City Hall, 126 Texas St., or from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hoxie Fire Department, 505 SW Lawrence, Monday through Friday.

Organizers said the initiative comes in response to a rise in local need, especially following an increase in reported thefts of SNAP benefits. Authorities said they have received numerous reports from residents uncertain about how they will afford food in the coming weeks. With the local food bank also under pressure, city officials said they felt compelled to act.

Requested donation items include canned goods, peanut butter, pasta, rice, and cereal. All items collected will go directly to the local food bank to assist families in need.

Residents are encouraged to contribute and help spread the word about the effort.
