Man Killed in Lawn Mower Accident in Horseshoe Bend, Deputies Say

HORSESHOE BEND, Ark. — A Horseshoe Bend man was found dead Monday morning after a lawn mower accident that deputies say occurred late the previous afternoon.

According to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a call around 1 a.m. on June 30 reporting the man missing. The caller said he had borrowed a lawn mower earlier that day to cut his grass but never returned it. His yard remained unmowed, and he could not be located.

Deputies immediately began a search and located the man and the mower at approximately 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of North Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue.

Investigators believe the man had been mowing near the roadway when the mower overturned into a culvert obscured by underbrush. The machine landed on top of him, fatally trapping him beneath it. Due to the thick vegetation, the scene was not immediately visible during the initial search efforts.

The name of the man is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
