ASP Investigating Officer Involved Shooting Death in Izard County

IZARD COUNTY, Ark. — The Arkansas State Police (ASP) Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has opened an investigation into an officer‑involved shooting death at the request of the Izard County Sheriff’s Office.

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, around 9:45 a.m., Izard County dispatch received a report of a disturbance involving someone reportedly armed with a knife and a hammer, who was making threats. Deputies from Izard and Stone counties responded to a home on Sylamore Vista Lane and contacted the suspect, later identified as David Douglas, 35, of Mountain Home.

During the encounter, an Izard County Deputy discharged his service weapon, striking Douglas, who died at the scene.

ASP CID Special Agents will conduct an independent investigation into the use of deadly force. Upon completion, the investigative file will be submitted to the Izard County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether the use of lethal force was consistent with Arkansas law.
