Bono Man on Expired Visa Accused of Attempted Murder in Stabbing

JONESBORO, Ark. — A suspect residing in the U.S. on an expired visa now faces a charge for alleged attempted murder after his arrest recently in Bono.

Henry Gathuru Ndichu, 38, of Bono, is accused of Criminal Attempt to Commit First-Degree Murder, a Class A felony punishable by 6 to 30 years in prison. Ndichu appeared before Judge Tommy Fowler for his probable cause hearing on Monday. The judge noted Ndichu was in the country on an expired visa.

Bail was set at $100,000 cash or surety with a no-contact order and GPS ankle monitor required. The defendant must turn over his passport if he is able to make bail. An immigration hold is also active on Ndichu.

On March 16, deputies responded to a stabbing at the 400 block of Country Road 113. Witnesses told authorities that Ndichu stabbed his mother-in-law in the neck. Deputies took Ndichu into custody at the scene without incident.

Ndichu was interviewed by investigators at the sheriff’s department. The PC affidavit states that he said he was arguing with the alleged victim. He admitted to having the knife and there was blood on his right hand. He stated he had already hurt her and he thought he stabbed her. Additionally, Ndichu admitted to stabbing her according to what his wife said. When the investigators mentioned Ndichu stabbing the victim, he allegedly stated yes.

The defendant’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 24.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
