Paragould Man Arrested for Domestic Disturbance Allegedly Kicked, Threatened Officers

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A man faces two felonies and two misdemeanors after his arrest during an incident involving his elderly mother, a probable cause affidavit from the Paragould Police Department said.

On July 27, 2024, police responded to a residence after a 911 call reporting that two boys had their elderly mother on the ground. Police arrived and noted they could hear yelling from inside the home. A male subject, described by police as highly intoxicated and aggressive, answered the door and attempted to deny entry. Police made entry after noting they could hear another male and a female voice inside.

Officers noted both males were “verbally combative,” which made it difficult for authorities to speak with the mother. Eventually, she reported her sons were drinking, which led to them fighting. She indicated to police several times that she was scared during the situation, the affidavit says.

Brandon Grooms was arrested for disorderly conduct. Police noted he was non-compliant and ignored their instructions to stand for handcuffing. He then continued his aggressive and violent behavior while being escorted to the patrol car, managing to kick officers in their shins, thighs, and chest, according to the affidavit. Police also reported he made multiple threats to kill two officers while being transported to jail.

Grooms faces charges of second degree battery and terroristic threatening, both Class D felonies; disorderly conduct, a Class C misdemeanor; and resisting arrest, a Class B misdemeanor. Judge Dan Stidham found probable cause to hold the suspect, setting a $25,000 cash-only bond.
