Man Gets $100,000 Cash Only Bond After Fentanyl Arrest

JONESBORO, Ark. — A man who was already in the drug court program was arrested Friday for several serious drug possession charges in Jonesboro.

Jason P. Boyd, 45, was arrested Friday night in what began as a routine traffic stop. Police stopped a tan 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe for making an improper turn around 10 PM on July 19, 2024 near the intersection of East Highland Drive and Red Wolf Boulevard.

Police searched the man and found a pill suspected of containing fentanyl. This led to further searches of a hotel room and a tattoo shop where the man works. They found two digital scales with suspected drug residue, 21 blue M30 pills suspected to contain fentanyl, 3.5 grams of a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine, 0.6 grams of suspected cocaine in the hotel room, with another 7.9 grams of suspected cocaine located in a tattoo shop. Boyd also reportedly had $789 in cash on him.

Boyd was arrested on charges including possession of meth or cocaine, greater than 10 grams but less than 200 grams, with purpose to deliver, possession of fentanyl with purpose to deliver, and possession of drug paraphernalia, all felonies.

On Monday, Judge Tommy Fowler set bond at $100,000 cash only, meaning he must pay the full amount to be released. The defendant remained silent until receiving the large bond requirement; then, he said he was already in drug court. The judge said he knew, and it factored into the decision for the high bond, as he considered Boyd to be a threat to the community.

Boyd also faces a drug court violation charge.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
