JONESBORO, Ark. — A woman is facing two felony charges after police said she kicked open the front door of a Warren Street home while demanding money, then threatened to have the residence shot up and the victim killed.
Miranda Leigh Watson is charged with criminal attempt to commit aggravated residential burglary, a Class C felony; first-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony; and first-degree criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor.
Watson’s bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety during her first appearance Friday, Aug. 14. She is scheduled to return to court at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 30.
Officers responded Monday, Aug. 10, to a reported attempted break-in at a residence on Warren Street, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The victim told officers that Watson, an acquaintance, arrived with a juvenile and asked for money to pay rent. After the victim refused to open the door or give Watson money, Watson allegedly became aggressive and began demanding it.
The victim said Watson kicked the door several times until it swung open, damaging the door, its frame and a wall. Watson and the juvenile stepped inside the threshold, but the victim forced the door closed before they could do anything else inside, according to the affidavit.
Police said the victim held the door shut as Watson continued pushing and kicking it, cursing at the victim and demanding money.
After the victim called 911, Watson began leaving but allegedly threatened to have “GD” members come to the residence, shoot it up and kill the victim.
Watson reportedly left in a green Chevrolet Spark. Police said intersection cameras confirmed that a vehicle matching the victim’s description left the area during the time of the 911 call.
Judge Scott Ellington signed a warrant for Watson’s arrest Thursday, Aug. 13. Watson was later located and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
