JONESBORO, Ark. — A woman accused of firing a handgun at her girlfriend as she ran away is facing two felony charges after police said a bullet penetrated a nearby home, entered its living room and struck the far wall.
Nataki Orr Harris is charged with committing a terroristic act involving an occupiable structure, a Class B felony, and aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony, according to court records.
Jonesboro police responded Aug. 12 to reports of shots fired at an apartment building in the 200 block of South Main Street. A witness reported hearing a gunshot before driving past the property and then seeing one woman fire a small handgun at another woman.
Officers soon located the alleged victim about one block east of the scene and contacted Harris in the parking lot where the shooting reportedly occurred.
The alleged victim told police she and Harris had argued. According to the affidavit, the woman said she first fired a shot into the air in an attempt to make Harris leave before carrying her red handgun back inside the apartment.
She said she later stood outside talking on the phone and did not see Harris enter the apartment. When she turned around, she saw Harris holding her handgun, the affidavit said.
The woman told officers she began running and Harris fired the gun at her.
While processing the scene, investigators were approached by residents who lived across the street. Police said a bullet had penetrated their home, entered the living room and struck the far wall. The affidavit does not indicate anyone was struck by gunfire.
Surveillance footage did not capture the shooting but showed the alleged victim crouching and running across the street while looking behind her, according to the affidavit.
The woman said she and Harris had been in a relationship for about one year but did not live together.
Judge David Boling set Harris’ bond at $50,000 cash or surety. Harris’ next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 30.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
