Jonesboro Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Injuring Infant Son

JONESBORO, Ark. – On Friday, May 17, a Craighead County Circuit Court jury found Marcellus Morrow, 29, guilty of first-degree domestic battery for injuring his two-month-old son in 2022.

Circuit Judge Scott Ellington sentenced Morrow to 12 years in prison, with eligibility for parole after serving three years.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Thomason and Deputy Prosecutor Presley Noel.

“One of the most important aspects of my job is advocating for victims who cannot speak for themselves. Today, the jury listened to the evidence and, in doing so, gave our victim a voice,” said Thomason.

The incident occurred on November 3, 2022, when Jonesboro police responded to a call at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center regarding an injured two-month-old boy. Doctors reported that the infant had several broken ribs, two leg fractures, a skull fracture, and brain bleeding.

Initially, Morrow claimed his son’s injuries were due to a fall from a recliner chair that occurred approximately three weeks before the infant was hospitalized. However, the medical evidence contradicted this explanation. Morrow eventually admitted he was alone with his son when the injuries happened.

“We would like to thank the Jonesboro Police Department for their excellent work on this case,” said Prosecuting Attorney Sonia F. Hagood. “We would also like to thank the jurors for their service. These cases are heartbreaking and difficult to listen to.”

Morrow was represented by attorneys Matthew Lunde and Joe Hughes.
