PARAGOULD, Ark. – Police arrested a man after a domestic violence incident in which he was alleged to have physically beaten a woman this week in Paragould.
The information was detailed in a probable cause affidavit released on Wednesday. At 7:32 PM on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, the Paragould Police Department was dispatched to Leewood Drive for a domestic disturbance. A neighbor in an adjoining apartment could hear what sounded like a male beating a female.
Officers arrived and spoke to the couple at the residence. Initially, the male invited police in while the woman sat silently on the couch. Authorities separated the two and questioned the woman. She said she told him he needed to stay away for the night but he arrived at the apartment to find the doors locked – so he kicked the back door open.
From there, all hell broke loose inside of the apartment. The home was in disarray, police observed, with vases knocked over and a security system torn off the wall. The woman told police a fight had occurred, with officers observing redness to her neck and throat. The woman did not remember being strangled, she said, but did tell police she had been struck numerous times. Photographs were taken of the injuries.
Authorities elected to arrest the man for third degree misdemeanor battery. Upon informing the suspect he was arrested, he responded, “She hit me first,” the report said, but officers noticed no visible marks on him.
Ricky Johnson, 44, of Paragould, was arrested for third degree battery as well as revocation of probation/parole. A no contact order was set for the victim along with the residence of the alleged crime. He is not to possess a weapon, as well. Bond was set at $5,000 cash only, the PC affidavit says, although jail records show a higher bond.
