JONESBORO, Ark. – A scammer pretending to be a federal agent somehow conned a store employee into sending thousands in gift cards with money from the cash registers.

The incident was reported to the Jonesboro Police Department a short time after 5 PM on April 16 at the 2200-block of East Highland Drive, at Gear Head Outfitters. An employee, 28, was contacted by an unknown suspect pretending to be a federal agent. The suspect convinced the employee to take all the money from the registers and put the money on gift cards, the police report states. He then sent the suspect the codes for the cards to gain access to the money.
