
WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – A man was struck by a vehicle and later died in West Memphis and a suspect is facing serious charges in the case, a press release from the West Memphis Police Department said.

On December 30th, 2022, at approximately 6:50 pm officers responded to the 2200 block of East Broadway in reference to a man lying in the roadway that had possibly been hit by a vehicle. Upon officers’ arrival they located victim, Jamie Bailey, 36, of West Memphis, in the roadway suffering from severe injuries to his legs, face and head. EMS was called to the scene to render aid and subsequently transported Bailey to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis for treatment. Officers were able to ascertain from witness statements that Bailey was struck by a vehicle and used surveillance footage to get a license place and description of the vehicle responsible.
Officers were able to speak with Detario Allen, 39, the owner of the vehicle, at his residence who appeared to be intoxicated. A detective with [the] criminal investigative division made the scene to begin the criminal investigation.
After field sobriety testing, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage Detario Allen was charged with the following offenses: Leaving the scene of an accident (Injury), Driving while intoxicated 1st, Careless and Prohibited driving, and Battery 1st.
On January 1st 2023, Jamie Bailey succumbed to his injuries sustained from this incident. Datario Allen’s charges will be updated to include Negligent Homicide.
We would like to extend our condolences to the Bailey family as this is yet another reminder of the consequences of drinking and driving.
