PARAGOULD, Ark. — Arkansas State Police is investigating the death of a Greene County Detention Center inmate who experienced a medical emergency Sept. 22, Sheriff Brad Snyder said.
The emergency occurred at approximately 11:16 a.m. at the detention center. On-site medical staff and detention personnel performed CPR until fire and emergency medical personnel arrived and took over care, according to Snyder.
The inmate was transported to the Baptist Paragould emergency room and pronounced dead at 12:01 p.m., Snyder said.
State police was asked to investigate in accordance with protocol, Snyder said. An autopsy has been requested and is pending.
In an update to his statement, Snyder said the inmate’s family and emergency contacts were notified Sept. 22.
The statement did not identify the inmate or describe the nature of the medical emergency.
Snyder directed media inquiries to the Arkansas State Police Public Information Office in Little Rock.
Arkansas State Police identified the inmate as Atiyana Willis, 18, of Forrest City. Willis died Sept. 22 after experiencing a medical emergency at the Greene County Detention Center, according to the report.
