JONESBORO, Ark. — A man faces a felony battery charge after police say he struck another man with a beer bottle and continued attacking him on the ground, leaving him with facial fractures.
Guy A. Moreno faces allegations of second-degree battery, a Class D felony, and fleeing, a Class A misdemeanor, according to first-appearance paperwork from Craighead County.
Officers responded Sept. 27 to a reported domestic disturbance on Viking and found a man lying on the pavement with a bleeding head injury, according to a probable cause affidavit dated Sept. 28.
Police were told Moreno had left the scene. Officers soon spotted a shirtless man fleeing the area and apprehended Moreno after a short foot pursuit, the affidavit states.
Witnesses told investigators the attack was unprovoked. According to their accounts summarized in the affidavit, Moreno struck the man twice with a beer bottle. The second strike shattered the bottle and caused the man to fall.
Witnesses said Moreno then stomped on the man’s head and abdomen and repeatedly punched him in the face while he was on the ground, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit lists injuries including a facial cut, bruising to the head and fractures to the nose and an eye socket. The man’s left eye was swollen shut.
Judge David Boling set Moreno’s bond at $250,000 cash or surety, with GPS monitoring. The first-appearance paperwork lists his next court date as 8:30 a.m. Oct. 26 at the Craighead County Courthouse in Jonesboro.
All suspects are innocent unless proven guilty.
